-

If you’re unsure whether your country is supported, please contact us before submitting.

What kinds of cards and collectibles do you grade?

-

We grade sealed video games across multiple platforms, including:

  • PlayStation (All)
  • Xbox (All)
  • Nintendo (NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Wii, Wii U)
  • PSP

Games must be factory sealed and unaltered. If you’re unsure whether your game is eligible, we recommend contacting our team before submitting.

-

Funko Pops

We grade standard-sized Funko Pops in their original packaging. At this time, oversized or specialty-sized Funko items are not accepted.

-

Other Collectibles

If you have a collectible you’re unsure about, please contact us prior to submission. Eligibility can vary based on size, format, and encapsulation requirements.

Do you grade autographed items?

Yes. We grade autographed items.

-

On-items signatures without verifiable provenance may be declined or given an ‘A’ Grade (authenticated only) unless accompanied by a recognised certificate of authenticity (for example JSA).

-

All autograph authentication decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.

What card thickness do you support?

We grade and encapsulate cards across a wide range of thicknesses, up to 180pt.

-

This includes many modern premium and specialty formats.

-

Oversized or non-standard items may require prior approval so best to check in by sending us an email to clarify.

Do you grade custom, proxy or fan-made items?

Custom or fan-made items may be encapsulated and given a ‘C’ Custom Grade where eligible, but they cannot receive a numerical grade.

-

However if they encroach on existing copyright they may be returned not encapsulated.

What is the maximum number of items I can submit for grading?

There are no maximums to the number of items you can submit.

-

Certain events and promotions may also have their own terms and conditions on the number of items you can submit– check with the event or promotion at the time.

How long do I need to submit my items after placing an order?

Once you place your order, you have up to3 months to send your items to TCG Grading.

-

This timeframe allows us to manage order capacity and turnaround estimates accurately. If your items are not received within this period, your order may be placed on hold or cancelled in line with our Terms & Conditions.

-

If you anticipate delays, please contact our team as soon as possible so we can advise on next steps.

Do I need to send all my items at the same time?

Yes. All items included in a single order should be sent  together in one shipment

-

Sending items separately under the same order can cause processing delays and increases the risk of misalignment with your submission details.

-

If you need to send items at different times, please place separate orders.

Can I add more items after I've placed my order?

In most cases, additional items cannot be added  to an existing order once it has been placed.

-

This is because service tiers, turn around times, and processing workflows are allocated based on the original order details.

-

If you’d like to submit additional items, the best option is to place a new order.

-

If your original order has not yet been shipped and you believe an amendment may be possible, please contact our team promptly.

-

Any changes are assessed on a case-by-case basis and cannot be guaranteed.

Preparing or Sending your items guidelines:

Trading Cards (TCG & Sports Cards)

  • Please clean sleeves and top loaders first to prevent any internal dust to cause damage to the item.
  • Place each card in a soft penny sleeve.
  • Insert the sleeved card into a rigid top loader or semi-rigid holder.
  • Do not tape over the top of the holder.
  • Optional but appreciated: add a small pull tab (sticky note or paper) to the sleeve for safe removal.
  • Stack cards neatly and secure them between two pieces of cardboard or in a team bag to prevent movement.
  • Ensure cards cannot slide or shift inside the package.
  • Do not place cardboard in between each card.

Top loaders, sleeves, and holders are not returned.

-

Booster Packs & Sealed Promos

  • Do not open, fold, or tamper with the pack unless instructed for compatibility reasons.
  • Place the pack in a rigid protector (such as a semi-rigid sleeve or Card Saver where appropriate).
  • Use cardboard reinforcement on both sides to prevent bending or crimp damage.
  • Ensure the pack is immobilised within the package to avoid movement during transit.

If you’re unsure whether your pack is compatible for grading or encapsulation, please contact our team before submitting.

Funko Pops

  • Do not remove the Funko Pop from its original box.
  • Place the boxed Funko inside a protective soft protector or bubble wrap.
  • Use a sturdy outer box with sufficient padding on all sides to prevent crushing or corner damage.
  • Avoid oversized boxes where the item can move freely.

Only standard-sized Funko Pops are currently accepted.

-

Video Games (Sealed & Eligible Titles)

  • Do not open or reseal the game under any circumstances.
  • Place the game inside a protective sleeve or plastic wrap to protect against moisture.
  • Sandwich the game between rigid cardboard sheets to prevent bending or cracking.
  • Use a snug outer box with padding to ensure the game cannot shift during transit.

If you’re unsure whether your game is eligible for grading, please contact us prior to submission.

-

General Shipping Guidelines (All Items)

  • Ensure all items are packed tightly and cannot move inside the shipping box.
  • Use a strong outer box suitable for courier handling.
  • Avoid excessive empty space inside the package.
  • Include your submission ID, name, and contact details inside the package.
  • Also include your return address and contact details on the outbox as well.
  • Insurance is strongly recommended, particularly for higher-value items.

Damage caused by inadequate packaging during transit may impact grading outcomes.

Will I get my protectors, top loaders or sleeves back?

Any type of protector, top loaders, semi-rigid sleeves, and one-touch cases are not returned as they are not included in return shipping calculations.

-

Please submit cards in holders you do not require back.

Can I submit my collectibles in person?

Yes. In-person submissions are accepted at our location within TAG Collectibles in Castle Hill, Sydney. Please complete your submission online before arriving.

-

In-store submissions are accepted Wednesday to Saturday from 10am.

-

We are working towards having more submission centres open throughout 2026. If you are a vendor and would like to express interest in becoming an authorised TCG Grading vendor site please get in touch.

I haven't had a chance to collect my submission. What happens then?

We understand that delays can happen, and we make every reasonable effort to work with customers to arrange collection or return of completed submissions.

-

Once grading and encapsulation are complete, customers are responsible for collecting their items or arranging return shipping within a reasonable timeframe.

-

We will make ongoing attempts to contact you using the details provided at the time of submission.

-

If a completed submission remains uncollected or undelivered for an extended period, storage fees may apply.

-

Where items remain unclaimed for 12 months or more despite repeated contact attempts, TCG Grading reserves the right to take further action in accordance with applicable laws.

2. Grading Authentication & Results

How does the grading process work?

Each item submitted to TCG Grading is assessed by professional graders using structured, item-specific grading criteria.

-

While the exact subgrade categories vary depending on the type of collectible, all grading is based on careful human judgement supported by magnification, controlled lighting, and reference standards to ensure consistency.

We assess each item across defined condition categories relevant to its format such as surface integrity, structural condition, seal quality, and overall presentation before assigning a final grade.

You can find detailed grading standards for each collectible type in our grading guides.

Do you guarantee grades of values?

No. Grades represent our professional opinion at the time of grading and are not guarantees of value or future market performance.

-

Market prices fluctuate based on demand, rarity, and broader market conditions.

-

For more information please refer to our terms and conditions by clicking here.

Are you grades comparable to PSA, Beckett or other grading companies?

Our grading scale follows widely recognised industry conventions, which makes grades easy to understand and broadly comparable across the hobby.

-

That said, grading standards are not identical between companies, and direct grade equivalence should not be assumed

-

A useful way to think about grading across companies is like comparing currencies.

-

A PSA 10, a Beckett 9.5, and a TCG Grading 10 all represent the top tier within their respective systems but they are not the same currency.

-

Comparing them one-to-one is similar to comparing the Australian dollar to the US dollar: both are valid, both are widely accepted, but their values are not fixed as identical.

-

Any advice provided regarding grade comparability or market behaviour is always point-in-time only.

-

Market sentiment, collector preferences, and demand can and do change over time.

-

Generally speaking, Australian grading outcomes and market behaviour tend to sit within approximately 75% to 100% of comparable US-based market leader results, depending on the card, franchise, grade, and current demand.

-

This range is not guaranteed and should be treated as a broad market observation rather than a promise of value.

As with all graded collectibles, grades represent a professional opinion at the time of assessment and not a guarantee of future value.

Can altered, cleaned or restored cards be graded?

Cards showing evidence of alteration, restoration, trimming, pressing, or surface modification may be declined or receive a designation reflecting their condition. Each card is assessed individually.

You told me you couldn't authenticate my item... Does that mean it's fake?

Not necessarily.

Authentication involves evaluating multiple factors, including whether an item’s materials, texture, colours, printing, and construction align with known genuine reference points. We also assess whether a item may have been altered, tampered with, or confused with a fan-made or reproduction item.

-

In some cases, items fail authentication not because they are definitively counterfeit, but because there is insufficient confidence to verify them as genuine under industry-standard criteria.

-

In line with global grading practices, items that do not pass authentication are returned ungraded. Where appropriate, we may offer the option to submit a replacement item on a case-by-case basis.

Can I request encapsulation without a numerical grade?

Yes. We offer raw encapsulation and authentication-only services for eligible items.

-

This option is ideal for collectors who want protection and verification without assigning a numerical grade.

-

These items are either given an ‘A’ authentic grade or ‘C’ custom grade.

3. Slabs, Protection & Storage

What are your slabs made from?

TCG Grading uses premium, crystal-clear polymer materials engineered for long-term protection, optical clarity, and durability.

-

For trading cards and booster packs, we encapsulate items in precision-manufactured slabs made from high-clarity acrylic-based polymers (PMMA-style materials).

-

These materials are selected for their visual transparency, long-term stability, and resistance to everyday handling — making them suitable for archival storage and display.

-

Leading grading companies in the broader collectible market, including PSA and Beckett, also employ high-performance polymer materials in their slabs to achieve similar clarity and protection standards.

-

For larger or boxed items like Funko Pops and sealed video games, we use high-grade resin enclosures with tamper-evident security seals designed specifically for those formats.

-

All materials are chosen to balance visibility, protection, and longevity across different collectible types.

How should I store my graded cards?

All graded items including cards, booster packs, Funko Pops, and video games should be stored away from direct sunlight and strong artificial lighting to minimise the risk of fading or discolouration over time.

-

For smaller slabs, we recommend slab sleeves and padded storage cases designed for graded collectibles.

-

For larger items such as Funko Pops and video games, store them upright in a stable environment with consistent temperature and low humidity.

-

Avoid excessive heat, moisture, or prolonged UV exposure for all graded items.

-

Can slabs or cases be opened or tampered with?

Our encapsulation systems are designed to be tamper-evident

  • Trading cards and booster packs are sealed using a sonic-welded slab, which permanently fuses the enclosure. Any attempt to open or alter the slab will result in visible damage.
  • Funko Pops and sealed video games are secured using high-grade resin enclosures combined with tamper-evident security stickers. Any attempt to interfere with the seal or enclosure will be clearly visible.

These systems are designed to provide collectors with confidence that their item remains protected and unaltered after grading.

4. Shipping, Insurance & Risk

Are my items insured while they're with you?

Customers are responsible for insuring items during transit to us.

-

Return shipping options may include insurance depending on the service selected.

-

Please review available shipping and insurance options at checkout. Insurance is subject to Australia Posts’ terms and conditions and product disclosure statement (or equivalent freight carrier for international submissions).

What happens if my item is damaged or lost?

We take professional care in handling all submissions.

-

In the rare event of loss or damage during return shipping where insurance was purchased, we will assist with claim documentation.

-

Our full liability position is outlined in our Terms & Conditions.

What if my item cannot be encapsulated?

If an item cannot be encapsulated due to authenticity, size, thickness, or structural issues, it will be returned.

5. Custom Art / Colour-Matched Labels

Can I combine grading with a custom art or colour-matched label?

Yes. TCG Grading offers two distinct label styles that can be selected as part of your grading submission for eligible cards:

  • Custom Art Labels: hand-illustrated, one-of-one artworks that extend and reinterpret the card’s original art.
  • Colour-Matched Labels: refined, design-led labels that draw from the card or team’s colour palette, patterns, and visual identity without altering or re-imagining the artwork.

Both options are designed to complement the card being graded, and availability may vary depending on the item and format.

What is the difference between custom art and colour matched labels?

Custom Art Labels Custom art labels are individually hand-illustrated by our in-house artist and created specifically for a single card. The artwork is inspired by the card’s illustration, character, or theme and is creatively extended or re-imagined forming a unique, one-of-one presentation.

-

This is not decoration…it’s authorship. A custom art label doesn’t just identify your card… it completes it

-

Colour-Matched Labels Colour-matched labels focus on design harmony rather than illustration. These labels use carefully selected colours, tones, and patterns drawn from the card itself such as team colours, set design elements, or brand identity to create a clean, cohesive presentation.

-

Colour-matched labels are particularly well suited to sports cards and modern sets where consistency, team identity, and visual balance are key.

6. Orders, Turnaround & Support

How long does grading take?

Turnaround times vary by service tier and are published on our website.

-

Timeframes are estimates and begin once your submission is received and entered into our system.

Can I track my submission?

Yes. Once your submission is processed, you’ll be able to track its progress through your account dashboard.

What actually happens during the grading process?

Every submission passes through the following stages. Each stage has its own workload and timing, which is why turnaround times are estimates rather than guarantees.

-

1. Paid & Received

Your order is paid, received, and entered into our system. At this point, confirmation is sent and the estimated turnaround timeframe begins (from receipt, not order date).

-

Effort: Low Time impact: Low

-

2. Authentication & Grading

Each item is authenticated and assessed against item-specific grading standards. Depending on the collectible, this may include surface inspection, seal integrity checks, structural assessment, and reference comparison.

This is one of the most time-intensive stages and cannot be rushed without compromising quality.

-

Effort: High Time impact: High

-

3. Label Research & Creation

We research and verify the correct details for the item, including title, series, variant, platform, year, and other identifying information.

For custom art labels, this stage also includes concept development and illustration. For colour-matched labels, this includes palette selection and layout refinement.

Accuracy at this stage is critical and often more time-consuming than collectors expect.

-

Effort: Medium Time impact: High

 -

4. Slab / Case Assembly

Once grading and labels are finalised, items are encapsulated using the appropriate method for their format (sonic-welded slabs or high-grade resin enclosures). Security features are applied and final checks completed.

-

Effort: Low Time impact: High (due to batching and production sequencing)

-

5. Complete (Shipping or Collection)

Completed submissions are prepared for return shipping or made available for collection. Tracking or pickup notifications are issued.

-

Effort: Medium Time impact: Low

You said my submission would be ready by a certain date, why isn't it?

The date provided at the time of submission is an estimated completion date, not a guaranteed deadline.

-

Unlike many grading companies, we publish estimated due dates to provide transparency and hold ourselves accountable wherever possible. However, grading timelines are affected by variables that cannot always be predicted at the time of submission, including:

  • fluctuations in submission volume
  • complexity of authentication or research
  • production batching requirements
  • non-standard items or premium label selections

We understand the importance of timelines and do our best to communicate progress through status updates. Estimated dates are provided in good faith, but they remain estimates.

Do you offer refunds?

We do not offer refunds for change of mind once a submission has been received. Please review our Terms & Conditions before submitting.
